Aims & Scope

The "Journal of Food Legumes," the official publication of the Indian Society of Pulses Research and Development (ISPRD), is dedicated to advancing knowledge and understanding in the field of pulse crop science and its applications in food systems worldwide. The journal welcomes original research articles, reviews, and short communications covering a broad spectrum of topics related to food legumes. Areas of interest include, but are not limited to:

  1. Agronomy and crop production techniques specific to pulse crops, including cultivation practices, cropping systems, and soil management.
  2. Genetic improvement and breeding programs aimed at enhancing the yield, quality, and resilience of pulse varieties.
  3. Nutritional composition and health benefits of pulse consumption, as well as the role of pulses in addressing malnutrition and food security.
  4. Post-harvest management, processing, and value addition strategies for pulse crops to enhance their marketability and shelf life.
  5. Sustainable farming practices and agroecological approaches for pulse production, including organic farming, integrated pest management, and conservation agriculture.
  6. Socio-economic aspects of pulse farming, trade, and consumption, including market trends, policy implications, and farmer livelihoods.
  7. Food technology and innovation for developing novel pulse-based products, ingredients, and functional foods to meet consumer demands and preferences.
  8. Environmental impacts and sustainability considerations associated with pulse production and consumption, including carbon sequestration, water use efficiency, and biodiversity conservation.

The "Journal of Food Legumes" serves as a platform for researchers, academics, agricultural professionals, policymakers, and industry stakeholders to exchange knowledge, share best practices, and contribute to the advancement of pulse crop science and its role in sustainable food systems. We encourage submissions that address emerging challenges and opportunities in pulse research and development, fostering interdisciplinary collaboration and promoting evidence-based solutions for a healthier, more resilient future.
