Variability studies in some genotypes of chickpea (Cicer arietinum L.) under rice fallow

This investigation was carried out to identify superior genotypes of chickpea on the basi s of yield and milling quality traits grown under rice fallow condition during genetic coefficient of variation, heritability and genetic advance were observed for total pods/plant, effective pods/plant, 100 seed weight, seed yield/ plant and biological yield. S eed yield shared positive and significant association wi th harvest index, bi ological yield, effective pods/plant, total pods/plant, secondary branches and primary branches. Biological yield, harvest index, days to maturity, effective pods/plant and seeds/pod exhibited maximum direct positive effect on seed yield/plant. Some lines such as ‘ICCV 07111’, ‘Pusa 372’, ‘Vaibhav’, ‘PG 186’, ‘JG 16’, ‘DCP 92-3’, ‘JG 11’ and ‘JG 14’ had better milling quality traits.
