Studies on combining ability for yield and yield components in mungbean

Combining ability analysis for nine quantitative characters was done through a 6 parent half diallel cross in mungbean to identify certain parents/ crosses that can be used in mungbean improvement programme. The analysis of the data obtained on five randomly chosen plants revealed high gea rank for grain yield is related to the GCA for other yield components. The parents LGG 460, Pant M 4, and OGG 12 were judged as good general combiners for seed yield. The cross combinations OGG 12/LGG 460, LGG 460/ Pant M4 and TARM 1/ OUM 115 were identified as potential ones on the basis of their mean performance and specific combining ability. The predominance of non-additive components in the inheritance of most of the characters studied was also observed.
