To reduce loss of viability under ambient storage condition, experiments were conducted to treat the seed with different dry powder of plant products such as ashwagandha root, turmeric rhizome, ginger rhizome, Trigonella seed and jute leaf and some pharmaceutical preparations such as Disprin and Celin powder before storage. Seed treatments with above products showed highly beneficial effect on storage life of the seeds. The experiments were performed under accelerated (40"C + 98% RH) and natural (73±7% RH+ 27± 5°C) ageing condition. Biochemical analysis of treated and untreated seeds in respect of membrane permeability, dehydrogenase activity, catalase and free α-amino acids pool in leachets under accelerated and natural ageing conditions confirmed the beneficial effects of the dry- dressing treatment.
