Abstract

Studies were conducted to screen pigeonpea genotypes against Coimbatore isolates (variant 3) of sterility mosaic virus and to determine the inheritance of resistance to strain specific sterility mosaic pathogen. Among the ten cultivated and ten wild pigeonpea genotypes that were screened against sterility mosaic pathogen, APK 1, ICPL 83024 and ICPL 83027 showed resistance. It was confirmed by DAS ELISA technique. Some of the wild species of pigeonpea such as Cajanus lineatus, Rhynchosia aurea, C. acutifolius, C. sericeus, C. albicans and Flemingia bracteata showed resistance. The hybrids between susceptible and resistant parents were susceptible to sterility mosaic disease, indicating dominance of susceptibility. In F, generation, the hybrids segregated in the ratio of 13 susceptible and 3 resistant, confirming the presence of inhibitory gene interaction in the inheritance of disease resistance
