In the present study, the relationship between physiological traits and yield was examined under drought stress among 194 recombinant inbred lines in lentil. The results of correlation and multivariate regression analysis revealed a positive association of relative water content, membrane stability index, SPAD and normalized difference vegetation index with grain yield and biological yield, whereas normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI) exhibited a negative association. This demonstrated the importance of these parameters to maintain water status, membrane stability and photosynthesis under drought stress conditions. The grain yield also showed a positive association with biological yield and harvest index under drought stress, reflecting efficient utilization of biomass under drought conditions. Our findings demonstrate the effectiveness of physiological traits in selection programs for developing high-yielding drought-tolerant lines of lentils under water stress conditions.
