Author Biography

  • Meenal Rathore, Division of Plant Biotechnology ICAR-Indian Institute of Pulses Research, Kanpur

With 20 years of research experience in genetic engineering of crop plants for stress tolerance, and molecular breeding and weed biology, Dr. Meenal Rathore has developed 42 Near isogenic lines(NILs) in wheat for different seed storage protein alleles and marker free transgenic vegetables for abiotic stress tolerance She established that Indian weedy rice is largely an admixture of wild and cultivated rice and has been involved in the Event Selection Trial of transgenic chickpea and pigeonpea tolerant to gram pod borer. Her current research interests include improving legumes for stress tolerance using advanced biotechnological tools. A doctorate in Molecular Biology and Genetic Engineering from GBPUA&T, Pantnagar, she served DRDO for more than 9 years and was recipient of DRDO Technology Day Award and DRDO Technology Group Award. She has filed a patent on method of developing transgenic plants. She currently serves as Head, Division of Plant Biotechnology, ICAR-IIPR, Kanpur and also the Editor-in-Chief, Journal of food Legumes.
