Value Chain Analysis identifies the value being added to the product at each stage of the chain as it is being transformed. It is being increasingly used in decision making process to enable the producers gain a more lucrative role in agricultural value chains. The study was conducted in the Bundelkhand region of Uttar Pradesh during 2019-21 using ex-post-facto research design. Semi structured interviews, group meetings and focus group discussions were carried out to collect data from sampled value chain actors. Pigeon peacrop registered annual decline by 1.72% during 2000-01 to 2019-20. The average net return from pigeonpea was recorded to be Rs. 3432/ha with average yield level of 10.96 q/ha. Four pigeonpea marketing channels were documented from the region. Marketing efficiency (1.47) as well as producers share in consumer rupee (59.48%) was observed to be highest in marketing channel 2 wherein the aggregation and trading were integrated. Pigeon pea from the region primarily moved to processing units located in Kanpur and Allahabad centres. Processed pigeon pea in turn catered to the market demands of Kanpur, Kanpur Dehat, Lucknow, Kannauj, Auraiya and eastern region of the state as well as UP Bundelkhand region. Value chains of pigeon pea in the region were large, involving multiple actors and market intermediaries.
