Abstract

The genotypic tolerance of 330 field pea genotypes were tested against topramezone (33.6% SC) 25.7 g a.i./ha as post-emergence (POST) application at 25 days after sowing (DAS). Three lines of each genotype were grown with herbicide treated and non-treated condition for five consecutive years (2020-21 to 2024-25). The genotypic tolerance was tested based on crop phytotoxicity on a 0-10 scale in all years. Major weed flora in field pea included Chenopodium album, Coronopus didymus, Medicago denticulata, Melilotus indicus, Spergulla arvensis, Fumaria parviflora and Phalaris minor. Among the tested genotypes, two genotypes ‘DMR 6’ and ‘IP2K 101’ (phyto-toxicity score range 0-1 over years) were found tolerant for POST application of topramezone 25.7 g a.i./ha. A visual phyto-toxicity score of 1 was recorded for ‘DMR 6’ in all tested years. While, phyto-toxicity score of ‘IP2K 101’ ranged between 0-1 during the study periods. The genotypes ‘JP 21’, ‘JP Batri Brown’ and ‘JP 1104’ had higher phyto-toxicity score of 6-9 over the years. Thus, five years’ study revealed ‘DMR 6’ and ‘IP2K 101’ as tolerant genotypes of field pea for POST application of topramezone 25.7 g a.i./ha. Hence, these genotypes can be utilized as a potential donor for future field pea breeding programme towards development of herbicide (topramezone) tolerant varieties and in other basic studies.
