Abstract

Lentil is considered one of the significant pulses grown in India. It possesses good digestibility, flavour and high protein content. This study was conducted on engineering properties (weight, dimensions, sphericity, arithmetic mean diameter, geometric mean diameter, volume, surface area, flakiness ratio and projected area) and mass of lentil seeds employing models, viz. linear, quadratic, S-curve and power, depending on their moisture content. Seeds were manually selected based on mass to classify them into three distinct categories at different moisture content on a dry basis as group A (9.98% mc), group B (15.03% mc) and group C (19.83% mc). The dimensional characteristics of the lentil seeds exhibited variability within a certain range viz., length 4.11 to 4.46 mm and thickness 2.31 to 2.56 mm, respectively. The linear and quadratic models exhibited the most significant correlations between the mass and the dimensions of the lentil seed.
