Effect of seed treatment and soil application of insecticides on incidence of stem fly, Melanagromyza sojae (Zehntner) infesting black gram in kharif season

Stem fly causes significant losses in black gram, particularly during the early stages just after germination, leading to direct plant loss due to seedling mortality. In such cases, seed treatment and soil application of insecticides at the time of sowing can be highly effective. Therefore, the present experiment was conducted at the Entomology Farm, B.A. College of Agriculture, Anand Agricultural University, Anand. Seven insecticides were evaluated as seed treatment and soil application. The treatment of imidacloprid 600 FS, thiamethoxam 30 FS applied @ 5.0 and 7.5 ml/kg seed and fipronil 0.3 GR was found effective in managing stem fly, M. sojae infestation in blackgram and it reflected on yields. Maximum net profit was realized in the treatment of imidacloprid 600 FS @ 7.5 ml/kg seeds (`24858/ha) followed by thiamethoxam 30 FS @ 7.5 ml/kg seeds (`23547/ha). With respect to ICBR, the treatment of thiamethoxam 30 FS @ 5 ml/kg seeds stood first by exhibiting ICBR 1:38.01 followed by thiamethoxam 30 FS @ 7.5 ml/kg seed (ICBR 1:36.50).
